Getting Green Started Again!

Most of the attention being on Health Care reform lately has pushed the headlines of our Planet to the Back Burners. We have to get them to the Front, and Soon!
This Being a Blog about mainly the Health of Our Planet and the living creatures(including us) on it, is only going to Get much Better, and very fast since HCR passed!
As far as Global Warming goes, its still here and growing with a vengeance - http://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/3/25/850908/-Rapid-melt-spreads-to-NW-Greenland,-400ppm-CO2-may-melt-cap

As far as what I think is Just as important, which is The Environment in General, the best thing that will reach the most amount of people is this weekends Environmental Film Festival -http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/03/23/AR2010032303432.html

The health of our planet also encompasses Our Health as people, and the sustainability we can achieve. This takes on many facets including how and what we decide to eat. This is a great place to start -http://www.sustainabletable.org/home.php
I will offer up much more in the form of ideas, challenges, recipes, and downright pleas for cooperation with changing your diet, not just for the health of the planet, but for You!

Energy is another topic we will dive into here because it is an important piece of the puzzle we have to deal with. The heat and cooling we need in our home is very important to this planet because the energy it requires is Huge. Their are very simple and creative means to get heat and cooling without using the vast amounts of energy that most of us now use.
The next blog entry will give you a few of my own answers to this, of which I have been using for over 20 years. I have some measuring to do, so if you will excuse me for a few hours, meet me back here ASAP.
Thank you,
Steve Souza

For Larry

Hi Larry, and everyone else out there that wants to know more about healthy eating. I'll make you a deal - I'll do the leg-work, and you can kick back & eat. That is, after you prepared the food. These days we know thats the key, is preparing our own food, at least most of the time. The leg-work I'm going to do consists of, mainly, sorting through all the garbage out there. When I say garbage , I mean almost everywhere, even in your grocery store, unless you happen to have a Trader Joes, Whole Foods, or a place that sells real food. When I say real food, I mean the stuff without too many extra ingredients - Fruit, veggies, Oats, eggs, raisins, honey, you know, all the macho stuff. Yes, meat too, unless you are a vegetarian, vegan, or raw vegan, (of which I have been through all). I still believe that if you eat red meat, try to keep it to once a week. The raw food diet I put myself on 20 years ago made me feel great, but I needed more of a balance since I was so active. Finding that balance is another key to health. It will depend on your age and activity level, and also listening to all the signs your body gives you. A couple facts before we start eating: since you were a baby, signals from all parts of your body are sent to your brain where they are translated. The brain then sends other signals back through your body to trigger actions. No matter your age, those signals are still there. Food also triggers hormones, but more about that later.
Thats it, lets get started - recipe time.
P.S. While I look for things to make, I usually grab some of my favorite fruit, which is usually whatever is in season, or this time of year, whatever I have frozen(I freeze peaches, strawberries, etc that I collect when the best is available). I always have bananas, as I buy them every 2-3 days, as well as apples and any tropical fruit I can find such as papayas & mangos. If I'm so hungry I cant concentrate on cooking, I'll add walnuts, raisins, and my favorite yogurt - Clover low fat vanilla. Then I have a lot more time on my hands finding that recipe and preparing it.
Yes, its New Years eve day, and I am looking for recipes just for Larry and the rest of you who make it to this site. I will post them on my @helthy Twitter account, so stay tuned.
Happy New Year!
